Arrangements for snow clearance and gritting, winter 2011/12
The Council operates a priority system whereby the more important roads and pavements are treated first, before moving on to the next priority.

The following maps show the routes for road treatment.

The Council is trialling a scheme whereby the Council will provide equipment (snow shovels, salt and a hand propelled gritting barrow) to Community groups to enable them to treat sections of pavement that the Council cannot ordinarily treat. The arrangements would be made under the auspices of the Community Council as they are already covered for insurance purposes. If you would like to take part in the scheme, please contact us.
- Category 1 roads are treated seven days per week. In severe snow conditions, we may give priority to the most important of these (called 1a) before treating the 1b routes
- Category 2 roads are treated on weekdays (excluding public holidays), after the Category 1 routes are cleared.
- Category 3 roads are not normally treated unless there is hard, packed rutted snow on these roads with road surface temperatures below zero and treatment of all other categories has been completed. Category 3 roads will only be treated on weekdays (excluding public holidays)
