Sewage plant update, 20 June 2011
Scottish Water has released the following update regarding the upgrade of the sewage treatment works, following their attendance of the Community Council meeting last week:
Scottish Water Update: Coupar Angus Waste Water Treatment Works
As discussed at the community council meeting on Monday 13 June, the source of the odours at the treatment works has been removed by bypassing the balance tank and roughing filter and reverting to the old treatment process.
As well as removing the source of the odour, it is also important that the treatment works continues to comply with quality standards set by our environmental regulator, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA). As a result the balance tank will now be used as a nitrifying filter which will give an additional level of treatment and ensure that the treatment works remains compliant as well as reducing the risk of odours.
We are pleased to confirm this work started on Monday 6 June and is due for completion by December 2011. If there are any changes to these timescales we will ensure the community is kept fully informed.
If any residents has any questions or concerns regarding the work currently taking place, please call our customer helpline number 0845 601 8855 [N.B. there is also a freephone number - 0800 731 0840] and ask to speak to Anne-Marie Dewar, Regional Community Manager or Brian Whyte, Project Manager.
In addition to the above, we are also currently looking at the schedule for the sludge tankers that visit the treatment works and will keep the community council updated with any planned changes.
