Results of consultation on revised proposals for The Cross and the High Street, 29 October 2009
The Council has now published the results of its recent consultation on revised plans for The Cross and the High Street, which includes making the road level with the pavement (i.e. no kerbs) and removing all parking from the High Street.
The Council had planned to make a final decision about the proposals for a Shared Surface Scheme on 4 November, but has now postponed the decision until 27 January.
On Wednesday 18 November MP Pete Wishart met with community councillors at The Cross, and subsequently wrote to the Council expressing their concerns. He received a reply from John McCrone saying that a majority of responses to the recent survey were in favour of the Scheme, and that it would go ahead.
Out of 329 responses 168 said 'yes' to the proposals, and 149 said 'no'. 12 responses were unclear.
Comments: Many comments were made regarding the revised proposals -
118 extra parking required or retain existing
61 concerned about congestion caused by proposed bus stop location, also those who don't want it moved
58 Oneway System _ have concerns regarding the proposed scheme including altenative suggestions
23 have issues relating to pedestrian crossing. E.g location and/or traffic lights
22 concerns about the design encouraging antisocial behaviour
22 street furniture and trees (concerned they will be vandalised and general tree issues e.g. leaves and shade)
13 concern over congestion due to parked cars on Union St is mentioned several times. There is a desire to have this resolved with double yellow lines*.
